Today’s Gardening post is featuring the perennial Monarda. Also known as Beebalm or Bergamot. We learned about two: Monarda didyma (Scarlet Beebalm) and Monarda fistulosa (top photo Wild Bergamot).
This is a classic case of why gardeners use Latin, because this plant is known by some many different names. But the bees know it and love it. Mine (top) is usually buzzing all year. You might also recognize the foliage scent similar to the Bergamot used in Earl Grey tea.
It’s a bright and colourful addition to any garden, in a vast array of sizes and colours. (But prone to powdery mildew, so give it room!)
